Okay everyone before we start, I have to say something. This article is actually an old one from the old blog I had years ago. This was one of the very few posts that wasn’t dated. But anyway with the holidays coming up it will be hard for me to write so there may be weeks where you get an old blog post or just no post at all.
Nothing has changed about this post really, I still need to see these musicals BADLY!!!
HONORABLE MENTIONS: EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL AND THE EDWARD SCISSORHANDS BALLET
I love me some Evil Dead and a campy musical seems to be a wonderful idea. Now this is in the Honorable Mentions because it’s not technically a Broadway Musical.
It’s the same for the Edward Scissorhands Ballet. It’s not Broadway, but Edward Scissorhands is one of my favorite Tim Burton films of all time. A ballet makes the most sense because for the majority of the movie, Edward doesn’t talk.
5. WICKED
Ah yes, the classic musical about what the witches of OZ were doing before Dorothy dropped in. I’ve read the Gregory Maguire books, listened to the soundtrack everyday for the better part of 2 years, and I’ve also read the script. I’ve done everything but see it live and I’m sad I haven’t (especially since it plays in Chicago and would be a short train ride there). I guess one of the reasons why I haven’t really went to see it is because of the fact Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenowith aren’t Elphaba or Glinda anymore.
I love them in the soundtrack and the viewable youtube videos and can’t really see anyone else as Elphaba or Glinda.
*EDIT: Okay so apparently Wicked is coming to my town this spring. If I can score tickets I’m definitely gonna go see it, and as a treat I’ll review it!
4. Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark
The infamous musical about Spiderman has been through so much crap that I’m surprised they don’t just give up and Rocky Horror it. I guess I just want to see this out of pure curiosity. Can it really be as bad as everyone says?
YIKES! Even the actors didn’t wanna live to see this premiere. You know what though, this was BEFORE they fired Taymor and re-worked the show. Lets see how it looks now
I guess it’s a step up compared to this
3. EQUUS/HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT EVEN TRYING
If you haven’t guessed by the pictures; the main reason I want to see these is because of Harry Potter—I mean Daniel Radcliffe.
All joking aside I really want to see if Daniel can possibly have a career post-Potter. I hear Equus got great reviews and How to Succeed was nominated for a couple Tony’s a couple of years back. And I really do hope Daniel can have a career on Broadway (it means that sooner or later he’ll be on glee!)
Well…one things for sure…you’ll never see that on a Quiddich field.
*ANOTHER EDIT: Ok so I had to switch things. Back in the old list the upcoming musical about Houdini was 1 because Danny Elfman was writing the music. Now he isn’t anymore so I had to change things.
2. CIRQUE du SOLEIL-IRIS
Does this even count? Oh I don’t care. So yes, Cirque du Soleil-IRIS. I think it’s about movies and stuff…

yea…that’s totally how you use a film canister
But the main reason I want to see this is not for the flips and spins, but for a chance to listen to music from my God, Danny Elfman
I BOW TO YOU!
1. BOOK OF MORMON
I love South Park. South Park can be a very musically-inclined show (hell just look at the movie) so a musical just seems natural for Trey and Matt. It’s a musical about Mormons on a mission trip to Uganda. Trey and Matt were very smart about this musical, mostly because they teamed up with the creator of Avenue Q, Robert Lopez (who has also worked on the Scrubs Musical Episode ((AKA Gracie’s Most Favorite Scrubs Episode Ever! (((after the Sesame Street episode)))). Avenue Q was greatly influenced by the South Park movie so it seems these three seem destined for greatness.
This soundtrack has become my go to for insults and insight. I can actually use songs as facts in arguments and amaze everyone!
Maybe now that it has a Chicago tour I’ll be able to see it.
Yea, and then I’ll be a millionaire and all my problems will be gone.
Or not
