claymation xmas

Well everyone it’s Christmas Day. How many of you are recovering from a Christmas eggnog hangover while watching A Christmas Story!? Only me? Damn I must have a problem.

hey at least I’m not watching the “sequel”

So I hope everyone is having a great holiday season. And here’s what I’m gonna talk about today; A Claymation Christmas.

Last week I talked about a shitty Christmas special, now I want to talk about a good one. This is another one from the famous Christmas VHS from years ago that I still watch, or try to, every year.

but if I can’t then I watch this…close enough…down to the dinosaurs!

So here’s the thing. Two dinosaurs, Rex and Herb, are our hosts to this. The blue stegosaurus doesn’t know what a wassale is and the orange T-Rex gets mad at him. During this we get little shorts featuring popular Christmas songs.

These guys were also in Freak Previews and a split second cameo in Raisins: Sold Out

When I was little Chorus of the Bells’ Quasimodo scared the ever living crap out of me and the Joy to the World bit bored me to tears. Today I love them both. Hell I’m still trying to figure out how they animated Joy to the World.

Yes this is claymation done by the great Will Venton, the creator of The California Raisins. And yes they have a cameo here singing Rudolph.

But that’s nothing compared to the other shorts here. This is almost like Fantasia, but more mind boggling.

Clay puppets have such a weird look to them that no matter what you’re making width them will always look creepy.

But the fact that this has so much heart in it is what makes this special so much fun and intriguing to look at again and again. It’s an easy YouTube find.

Now one more note before I end this post. Since this is the last post of the year 2012 I just want to say thank you to everyone here at RTGomer.com for welcoming me with open arms, eyes, minds, and hearts. Writing for this site has been so much fun. And I guarantee that the coming year will be even better.

But I leave you with this wonderful christmas ditty
