Gracie Picks the Oscar Winners!

….in animation.

Sorry guys but I can’t really give much of a prediction cause I haven’t seen much of the films nominated.

But I can give you my predictions for Best Animated Film Category!

That’s right I’ve seen all the films in the Best Animated Film Category so I can definitely and accurately say who’s gonna win. I’ll let you know that when it comes to the oscars, I know how those voters little brains work so I bet I’ll be right. (Probably)

But first, a summary of the films in competition.

OOP! sorry wrong film…

Brave; Pixar’s movie that led us to believe it was gonna be an epic fantasy with a princess but ended up being Brother Bear in Scotland.

Pirates! Band of Misfits; Aardman’s movie about British pirates fighting to be King of the Pirates. And here’s Film Brain’s review, and I agree 100% with it.

Frankenweenie; Disney and Tim Burton’s film about a boy who brings his dead dog back to life Frankenstein style. This film also brought back to life my love for my favorite Director.

Wreck it Ralph; Disney’s love letter to the arcade and Donkey Kong that starts amazing but runs out of lives when we get to Sugar Rush.

And finally ParaNorman; Laika’s film about a little boy who can see ghosts that has to think on his feet when Zombies are coming for his town. It has Brad Jones’ seal of approval!

I’m imminently ruling out both the CGI films because Brave was a disappointment and Wreck it Ralph, while a fine movie (minus the Sugar Rush “sub-plot”), has the whole Video Game movie thing going against it.

But lets concentrate on the fact that this is the year for stop-motion! Sure these films didn’t make much of a splash at the box office, but this has gotta be the first time ever that stop-motion films have outnumbered the CGI ones in the Oscar category.

I loved all three of these films but I really believe it’s between Frankenweenie and ParaNorman. I’m giving the edge to ParaNorman actually.

I loved Frankenweenie to pieces and if I want Tim to win an Oscar for a film, I’d want it to be this one. There’s so much heart and guts in this film and it shows how much love Tim had for this project.

Which is more than I can say for Alice

ParaNorman is exactly the same. The movie is crafted with love in every frame and every 3-D printed puppet head. What may give this film an edge is it being 100% an original film that truly tests what kids can handle in a film.
