This week finds Gomer and Cat discussing a woman’s inability to retain the meaning of the word “divorce”, someone who didn’t realize the proper way to check if a gun is working, and a good chunk of discussion about Net Neutrality!

That “Princess Molestia” thing was one of the most heinous things to come out of a fandom… ever, pretty much. The entire “humor” of it relied on the idea that someone getting raped is hiiii-larious. There’s a reason why “fuck bronies” is one of my regular tags on tumblr…
And speaking of abuse, that razor blade thing is horrifying on so many levels. Sounds like two factions of adults getting into a pissing contest, with the bodies of children as collateral. There is a point for some people where their personal authority becomes more important than the well-being of their own children. And those of others. And anyone. It’s terrifying.
I’ve read about the cinema shooting story. I think a crucial detail here is that the guy who did it is a retired cop. What I suspect here is that he just went back to old habits… Slightest hint of a confrontation? Shoot people. Can you even imagine how many times he probably got away with this on the job?
Putting prayer into schools is one of those points where fundamentalism flows directly into fascism. It’s designed to drive a wedge between people, empowering majority and casting out minorities.
The rape case… Do I even have to comment? More rape culture. More victim blaming. More misogyny. And a girl dares to try to get the slightest hint of justice leads to her being persecuted like the goddamn Frankenstein monster.
The divorce case… Well, I guess that just goes to show that it’s never a good idea to assume. Whatever she assumed divorce was… It’s not it.
The loss of Net Neutrality is just terrifyingly horrible, and I’m not really sure that it can be stopped at all. Those lobbies are fucking powerful, and corruption is running strong – Not only in the USA, but anywhere. It’s not just ISPs pushing for it. It’s largely the “traditional” media industry trying to put the genie back into the bottle, and to expand their dominance of the entertainment market to levels that are previously unheard of. How does one really combat lobbies backed by billions and billions of dollars? That’s the level of financial wealth where laws basically don’t apply anymore. Besides, the more the net can be throttled and controlled, the more power governments can wield, as information always has to be throttled through choke points. Pretty much everyone in power stands to gain from this shit.
