A discussion with an adult cosplay model
AniMaine was a blast. Got to meet up with friends, played a LOT of Lunch Money (and lost every single time, still fun!) and got to chat with some wonderful people in the anime industry as well. I can not recommend this convention enough!
The weekend in a nutshell right there. Greg Ayres is an awesome guy.
For this week’s article, I got the chance to converse with Squeaks, a model on Cosplay Deviants, an adult cosplay website and message board. Through the website I was able to chat with several of the models and find out what goes into adult cosplay modelling as well as dispelling a lot of myths and misconceptions about those (especially women) models that choose to pose for websites like this. I was able to get to know Squeaks through the site, especially after she asked me to write a story about her (that I’m not publishing here… sorry guys) and through Facebook. She is a wonderfully talented artists in several mediums as well as a wonderful personality and a pleasure to follow.
Who are you and what do you do?
Squeaks! I work, cosplay, generally tend to keep to myself
How did you come by the online handle of Squeaks?
I actually have a tick that causes me to make loud “squeaking” noises. A lot of my friends describe them as “yips”. Got the name as a result of that several years ago.
When did you decide that you wanted to do nude modeling?
Sorta happened accidentally! I have been into modeling as an art form for a long time, did a lot of experimental photography stuff throughout the years, but nothing professional. Just a lot of fun, and a great outlet.
How did you get to work for Cosplay Deviants?
Dumb luck! I had a really rough day at work a couple of years back, and decided “What the hell! If they say ‘no’ I’m right where I’m at now”. They said yes! Took me about a month to fully grasp that I had been accepted.
What is it like working for CD?

It can be a lot of fun! It also has it’s stressful moments and stuff, but I’ve loved the years I’ve produced work for them. Gotten to meet so many cool and wonderful people through it.
What is it like with your CD work at conventions?
Interesting!! It’s nice because you get to talk with lots of people, and they’re generally super nice/courteous. Some days are super tiring, though.
Is modeling your primary job?
Not at all!! It’s mostly a fun hobby of mine. (When I can afford the costumes TT_TT)
Is there any conflict between you modeling job and other work that you do?
Not really. The only difficult part is finding the time to make for it.
What kind of shows/characters do you like to base your photo shoots on?
I like to keep my spectrum pretty broad. I’ve done everything from anime to comics and games. My only rule is that they are characters I truly know and enjoy.
You’ve done shoots with other models, how is that different from shooting by yourself?

There’s definitely a whole different energy to it. Models that I’ve known prior to shooting with can be a lot of fun. For me personally it’s just weird getting comfortable/not being shy with someone else/having that show up in photos
What are your limits of things you won’t do in shoots?
I like to make sure even fully nude the photos are tasteful. When people look through my sets, or see photos individually, I want them to think of it more as art than pornography
How would you describe your fans?
I LOVE MY FANS. Honestly. I’ve gotten to know a few of them more personally, and they are some of the most amazing people I’ve gotten to know. I love being able to just be a goofball and talk nonsense about our various fandoms.
What’s the biggest misconception about what you do?

I think the most upsetting for me is when people assume I do this for the attention/I’m a “fake geek”
What are your hobbies outside of your modeling life?
I game /a lot/. My friends (and I) joke about how I’m a huge hermit lol. I also like to paint/draw. Play instruments. Play with LEGOs. Work on my comic collection. Boring stuff, mostly @_@
What kind of shows do you like to watch and do they influence your work?
I’m honestly not too big on watching television. I have a couple of shows I watch, but not frequently. Some of my favorite shows in the past have. Nothing recently has struck my fancy, though.
Tell us about “Catzilla”

“Catzilla” is Gracie. She weighs roughly 20lbs, and is a pastel calico cat. I adopted her as a Christmas gift to myself when I was 18. She was taken too early from her mom and abandoned. She actually didn’t know how to “meow” until several years later when I adopted another cat. She is my giant fur baby and my little spoon, and has helped me through a lot of anxiety and bad times.
What are your future plan?
Right now I am going through school and working. I hope to just be happy and find a place in my life where I can be stable both in my life and financially so that I can continue to do the things that I love (like cosplaying!)
Any advice for aspiring models out there?

Go for it, and don’t be afraid to be goofy. I also sometimes like to practice various facial expressions/poses just on my own. Sometimes what feels good and what looks good are WILDLY far apart.
What are the things you want people to know most about you?
Oh jeez. Uhm. I guess that I geniunely enjoy this, and I’m always up to being asked questions! Especially if I can help in any way.
Any parting words?
Thank you! For the opportunity of the interview, and to all of my followers who make me laugh and help support me whenever they can! It means so much to me!

Is there somewhere we can find your other, not-published-here interview?
It wasn’t an interview, it was a narrative story. It was published on the Cosplay Deviants message board a number of months ago.
