Helping out a little friend of mine.
Not going to have much to say this week, health issues and all are keeping this one kind of short, but I wanted to make sure to get this out there.
My friend Sean and I go back a long way. We had met on a message board and when that board fell apart, the two of us created a new one in it’s ashes : The Anime Alley. Sean, like me, is a big cat person. Right now he and his girlfriend Christa have 6 cats. Before anyone thinks about it, each of them are very well cared for. I’ve had the chance to visit a couple of times over the years and meet some of them, each of them is a character. His smallest and youngest of his group however needs YOUR help. Sean has explained it better than I can:
Little Yuki came to us at the end of November out of the blue without warning. One day we’re relaxing at home, the next we’re taking this 1lb kitten to my veterinary clinic I work at to have her looked at. While checking out our shed one afternoon I heard the cries of a little kitten. I saw this little ball of fur shaking in a dirty corner. Once I was able to get a hold of her I noticed beyond being dirty her eyes were crusted over and did not look very good. I rushed her to my work and had one of the vets check her out.
They estimated her to be 4-5 weeks old and she only weighed 1 single little pound. After cleaning her eyes off the vet determined she had ulcers on both. Those were more easily treated with medicated drops. The underlying problem is she has a more uncommon birth defect called Eyelid Agenesis. Basically she has no upper eyelids. This means her lashes grow right onto her eyeballs and corneas. This can cause ulcers, as she had, corneal tears, and other serious eye problems over time. The only way to fix this is with specialized surgery. The special eye doctor will cut some skin off from her cheek area and then surgically graft her new eyelids. A few weeks after the surgery they will freeze via liquid nitrogen any lashes that are growing underneath the new lids and remove them. Then the new lashes will grow over top of the new lids. It’s amazing what can be done.
The problem is this specialized surgery is also expensive. The surgery itself will cost $1200-$1500. The freezing a few weeks later is another $250-$300. All of this is estimated. So it could be more. She also needs to be spade and given her first round of shots. So in a 2 month span she will undergo a few surgeries and acquire some expensive vet bills. We are dedicated to helping her but any assistance would be appreciated. Yuki is a sweet and spunky little girl who loves her furry brothers. She’s now almost 3 1/2 lbs and 14 weeks old. She loves to run and play and would love to be able to see properly for the rest of her life. All donations will go towards her veterinary bill and any left over funds will be donated to a local cat rescue group. Thank you for any support you can give to little Yuki.
So anyone who is reading this, please lend a little to get her the help she needs. The little nipper is a wonderful little ball of fluff and she needs the chance to become a healthy BIG ball of fluff. As of now they are a quarter of the way to the goal!
