SUMMARY
In this video, Laci Green shares her thoughts about the usefulness of trigger warnings. First she argues that trigger warnings should be used and defined properly, and in doing so, they have a legitimate function in some settings. Second she argues that trigger warnings are being used differently because of the internet, and that we should consider where the line is in order to prevent overall dismissal of trigger warnings. She notes that dismissal of trigger warnings may also be tangled up with sexism, as a way to demand that people “man up” and avoid conveying emotional weakness. Lastly she argues that controversial speakers (that do not espouse hate speech) should not be banned from sharing their ideas at universities.
