I really love to watch television. But you probably already guessed that. And I love the I the Internet, again a no-brainer.
So while on the internet I come across a lot of information for shows. It’s not hard to avoid stuff, but not easy.
I want to show this old oatmeal comic.
This is exactly what happens through my mind when I want to watch stuff like Game of Thrones or Dexter. I go through this mental war with myself. I want to make sure that the crew and creators of these great shows get their due…and I know a lot of this stuff is on DVD….but………..I’m poor and can’t justify a DVD purchase.
But I don’t pirate anything. I never thought of doing that. I never really wanted to because I’m a good girl.
But now I really want to, especially with American Gods coming to HBO soon. I LOVE this book to pieces, and I don’t want to miss a moment of this show……so pirating if would be the best answer, right?
But I do want to give money and views to Neil Gaiman. I want to support this show in a positive way.
Back in the day my family used to have the HBO’s and Showtime and all that but we got rid of them when we realized something….there’s a lot of crappy movies on these channels. And we were wasting our money on stuff we didn’t watch.
They didn’t start doing shows that I actually gave a shit about until Showtime premiered Dexter. I was intrigued by the concept of the show and thought the lead was cute.
But I never pirated it. Mostly because I was young and didn’t know that pirating existed. And when I did find out about it, well I knew it was illegal and I didn’t want to try it.
I didn’t watch Dexter until CBS edited the first season to air on Sundays during the writers strike.
I got seasons 1 and 2 on sale for $6 each at a SALVATION ARMY STORE that’s how cheap I am!!!
Now here’s something, why can’t cable companies ala carte premium channels? If you want Showtime or HBO for an extra $2 a channel a month? Cause these package deals are fucking stupid. I also want the Funimation channel but I would have to subscribe to a package that also included some stupid fishing channel. And with the HBO and Showtime packages you also get the Latin channels. And I don’t know a damn thig about Spanish. My high school teacher gave up on my class and just showed us movies the whole damn time.
What the fuck would I want with HBO Latin? These premium channels are a waste of money and the only good times are prime time Sunday, unless you see a good movie on.
And again, I don’t want to pirate things cause I really want to support good quality work I television, especially since there’s so much crap on TV.
If I can’t get my ala carte channels, then why not shorten iTunes releases?
I know I’m not alone in this dilemma, which is why I predict that within 5-10 years those channels will have to re-think how they do business.
At least I hope….
