Okay, this is going to sound weird. Don’t ask why, I have younger relatives so the Disney Channel is tuned into on the television sometimes. They have this show, called Liv and Maddie. And this show infuriates me. Not because of the writing, or the premise, at least not as much. Now, the premise of the show, is that these two sisters are identical twins and they are mirror opposites. One is an actress and the other is just a regular teenager, and hijinks ensue. Now, the premise doesn’t sound too weird or contrived. And… it’s not. But what infuriates me is one simple detail.
The twins are played by the same person. Now, think of the two other really popular shows about identical twins. Sister Sister starred Tia and Tamera Mowry as… Tia and Tamera Mowry. They were identical twins separated at birth and adopted by two different parents. They meet as teenagers and decide that they’d like to live as a family, with Tia’s mother and Tamera’s father. The twins are played by twins! The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and it’s sequel series, The Suite Life on Deck, were about two identical twins played by Dylan and Cole Sprouse running amok in a hotel, and later a cruise ship. Again, the twins are real life twins.
In Liv and Maddie, the twins are played by Dove Cameron. Which means they employ the same, but vastly improved techniques as Sliders used to show people’s doubles when the character wasn’t Rembrandt, (as Cleavant Derricks actually had a semi-identical twin). So, why does this make me angry? Because it’s pointless! Was Hollywood at a shortage of actual twins? I have the same problem with The Parent Trap, starring Lindsay Lohan! I was just too young at the time to realize that there aren’t two Lindsay Lohans, thankfully. But tell me that there aren’t any actors with twins anymore!
It might not seem to be a big issue, but it irks me. Why do that? Just hire twins! But I think I know the reasoning. Twins cost twice the money. They can pay one actor for two roles for less than two actors for two roles. So, the reasoning is, one actor, less money! And that’s all that they care about nowadays. Like I said, the show is not good. I’ve seen enough, and it’s a dumb show, but if kids like it, who am I to argue. I’m the guy who liked Power Rangers: Jungle Fury when I was 12.
But yeah, if you’re gonna make a show about twins, get actual twins! I know it’s a money thing, but that’s a really cheap reason. So, come back next time for more opinions.
I have learn some good stuff here. Certainly price bookmarking for revisiting.
I wonder how much attempt you place to make this kind of excellent informative website.
