Seriously! Will you stop laughing?

So the other day I turned 35. Not exactly the most looked forward to age to reach in a person’s life, but it arrived and I’m on the right side of the dirt, so that’s something to be happy about.

Birthday’s for me were always interesting. I never had the big group of friends showing up, so it’s not like I had big parties every years. Only a handful of times did I get together with friends and enjoy myself on my birthday. As I got older I didn’t do the traditional things teenagers did on certain birthdays. I didn’t go for my permit when I turned 15, didn’t go for my license at 16, or do all the stuff you are allowed to do when I turned 18 (like porn and stuff…thankfully for humanity). When I turned 21 I didn’t go out and get shit faced drunk.

In recent years, birthdays were not very good to me. I’d spend the day locked away from people, off the computer, and sitting alone in my dark bedroom, usually just feeling worthless and terrible and regretting everything I’ve ever done. I’d usually not get back to being functional until the next day.

This year though I decided for something different. I got some writing done. Got myself a few goodies to enjoy, and decided that I would do one of the last great age restrictive things an American can do. I registered with the Federal Election Commission as a Candidate for President of the United States.

Stop laughing. I’m serious.

It really is that simple. Since I’m not rolling with dough, all that was needed was a single online form with the Federal Election Commission. No fees required. If you are over 35, natural born citizen, and lived her for 14 years, then you have the right to register if you want to.

Why am I doing this? Why not? No huge agendas, no crazy conspiracy theories, no whacky campaign platforms. I just wanted to do it and it was easy, so I did.

So I will be running and a write-in candidate, a Damn Write!-in candidate if you will (actually that is kinda clever) under my birth name of Keith LaPointe, representing the state of Maine. As time goes on in this political process I may have some fun with this. We shall see what happens!

You can find my books HERE

I will also be attending and running a panel at the AniMaine convention the weekend of November 13th in South Portland, Maine. If you are in the area, come check out my panel Damn Write!” and check out all the other fun things during the weekend!
