The OTHER big Wrestling show coming up!

With Wrestlemania 34 coming up in a few short weeks and new matches for that are being made official with every show, there is a lot going on in the wrestling world I’m paying attention, and I nearly missed another big show that is on the horizon with New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Strong Style Evolved show in Long Beach here in the United States.

It weird because the show takes place this Sunday Night and is being carried Live on AXS TV, NJPW’s carrier here in the states, but as of right now there are only 3 matches signed for the yearly excursion in the United State for what I feel is the best promotion going if you are a fan of a more athletic presentation in your wrestling instead of the WWE’s Entertainment style.

Now it may seem odd of NJPW to only have 3 matches heading into a show meant to attract more American fans, but There is another big show in The finals of the New Japan Cup happening between now and then. This is a big deal as the New Japan Cup is the early in the year tournament to decide a new challenger. So it could be possible that this could have a big effect on the show. The Big match pits the Britsh Technical wizard Zach Sabre Jr. against the ace of the promotion for over a decade now in Hiroshi Tanahashi. Now either this will make Sabre look amazing or Tanahashi gets his revenge for an earlier loss to the Submission expert. I’d put my money on Tanahashi winning and getting his title shot down the road.

Anyway, back to business. There may be only 3 matches announced so far, but damn they are good ones. So here it was we have so far:

The Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega/Kota Ibushi) v/s The Young Bucks (The Jackson brothers):

I expect good things out of this one with all four men able to get some air. There is that weird yaoiesque storyline going on with Kenny Omega and the Bullet Club, especially Cody, so that will play a big part of this match. EVERYONE is waiting for Kenny to turn on Kota, but I am not so sure this is the place to do that (yet). I have high hopes for this one even with all the other Bullet Club guys getting involved and storyline weighing it down. Kenny and Kota win but there will be a lot of storyline in this match.

IWGP United States Title: “Switchblade” Jay White v/s “Hangman” Adam Page: I gotta admit I’m not so keen on this one. I just do not buy into Page as a credible threat (let along the tough guy character he portrays) So am going with Jay White to retain his belt. Though as much as I am not liking this match for a belt designed to bring in Americans, it is better than using Billy Gunn last year. It may be the match to surprise me though.

Jushin Liger v/s Rey Mysterio: Oh YEAH. Yes, both guys are older and Rey is coming out with an injury to his arm to some degree, but it should be passible if not really good. Even though he is north of 50 now, I am STILL a huge Liger fan and have a lot of respect for him, so of course, I am going for him to win. It may not be like the matches from 20 years ago, but both guys know that and adjust things to still make for an entertaining night!

While nothing else has been announced, I would think at least one of the tag title belts will be on the line as well, possibly one of the other singles titles as well. Either way, I am looking forward to it as I will be watching on AXS TV.

Now, before I go I want to point anyone reading this towards a special little pup who is part of the family of a friend of mine. I have not had the chance to meet her personally, but Bailey isn’t feeling too good and she needs some help. Poor Bailey could use the kindness of strangers so if you are reading this, I ask you to give her a little love and help her and Jen out. She has had a rough one so far so she could use the help. You can donate to her and her human Jen HERE.
