Another tragedy and One that is close to the heart.
It is things like this that you never want to happen. The shooting in Florida is not what video game tournaments are about. Games, whether it is competitive Esports or just an escape from the realities of life by yourself, are meant to be fun. You are supposed to enjoy them. What happened at the gaming tournament in Florida is not what all of this is about.
I didn’t know either of the gamers taken from us. Elijah Clayton or Taylor Robertson. No one deserves to be killed because of some lowly asshole. There is a lot of stories going around. That happens. Who knows what is true or not about this asshole or the gamers he took from the world.
I don’t play Madden and am not part of that community. I’m not an Esport star making money and doing my thing with any of that. I’m not even an online gamer and don’t play others online. I play games for fun. I play games to create. I play games to get away from life. But my motivations do not matter. I PLAY. I know others who do the same. I know people who actually put on Gaming Conventions here in Maine and have their own Esports teams. It’s about a community of Gamers. Sure, there are some bad apples. The ones who use this as an excuse to be racist and sexist and gives online gaming such a bad reputation. But I also now that is not the norm. Some gamers are good and decent people who just want to have fun and not hurt anybody.
If there is one thing I would like to tell all of those gamers and video game players out there. It will be okay. Things are horrible right now. The news gives out the wrong image of people who play games and those who can make money at it. That happens. But if you need someone. Gamers are there. Look around and you will find help and support in times like this. Not everyone who plays video games is some evil let loose on the world.
Talk to the gamers who want to bring about something positive in this world.
It will be okay.
