A look at the big show in Japan!
Well this is foolish. Had this sityting here ready to go and Never posted it! Whoops! It is a little late now but I’m posting it now!
Welp, it’s the start of a new year. I’m not big on resolutions or anything like that, but there are some things I could probably work on in the next year. getting books actual published and make something more of that is a big one. Looking for an agent to represent my work at the moment and a lot of them are not doing anything for the season.
Of course, wrestling is still a big part of my life and there is a big show coming up in Japan with WrestleKingdom 13 on January 4th. This is the BIGGEST show in Japan and the most important show of the New Japan Year. I will be catching it one way or the other and WrestleKingdom is a fun one to watch every year. Let’s take a look at what is scheduled:
(Pre-show) Gauntlet match for contendership to the Never Openweight 6 man titles: Taguchi/Yano/Makebe V/S Finley/Cobb/Nigata V/S Best Friends/Goto V/S Killer Elite Squad/Suzuki V/S Scurll/Page/Takahashi: What a bunch of mismatched teams, but this match is to get as many people on the show, especially with the 6 man Champions (Guerrillas of Destiny and Taiji Ishimori) not defending on the show at all. These gauntlet matches and REALLY hard to predict but I think it should be fun. If I had to pick, I’d say Minoru Suzuki and the Killer Elite Squad win as they seem the most cohesive Team.
Never Openweight Title match:: (c) Kota Ibushi V/S Will Ospreay: Holy crap this is a BIG match I’m looking forward too and it kicks off the show. Ospreay always puts on a show and Kota does the same. I think Ibushi will play a part in the main event so I have him retained in the best match of the night.
IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title: (C) Kanemaru/Desperado V/S Takagi/Bushi V/S Raponngi 3k: These guys can all go so this will be fun. They put on some good matches during the Super Jr. tag league and they got the big one for this. I’m picking Rapongi 3k for this. I think there will be a title change and those guys deserve it. Look for Rocky Romero to get involved and I’m sure Kanemaru will try to get someone in the eyes with the Suntari Surprise but I gotta go with the CHAOS team on this one.
RPW British Wrestling Title: (C) Tomohiro Ishii v/s Zach Sabre Jr.: This is an odd one as a British title will be defended on the show. not the first time but still different. As for the match, it is a Stretcher against a tank that can and will RUN YOU OVER. Ishii will bring the hard hits and ZSJ will bring the holds and get Ishii’s body in all kinds of knots. It will be interesting to see if Sabre gets bulldozed or will Ishii end up in a square knot. I do not see Ishii submitting, but I could see him getting pinned while it a Sabre submission hold. I’m going with Sabre.
IWGP Tag Title: (C) Guerrillas of Destiny v/s Sanada/Evil v/s the Young Bucks.: There is a lot of talk of the Bucks leaving to start their own federation and don’t actually fit in the match anyway. I’m picking Sanada and Evil for this one with a lot of swearing for the GOD team. It will be there but not a highlight but probably not a low light either.
IWGP US Title: (c) Cody v/s Juice Newton: WTF is this? The rumors about the Bucks also got for Cody and this title isn’t really that important anyway. I expect Cody to lose in this rematch from last year, but who is going to interfere? This question may be the shocker of the show and get everyone talking.
IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: (C) Kushida v/s Taichi Ishimori: This will be a highlight. Kushida is one of my favorite and Taiji can keep up with him. Kushida will win but this is going to be a show!
Kazuchika Okada v/s Jay White: Kinda weird seeing Okada this low on the card but Ok! I am picking Jay White in this one and will be a big step towards the main event. This match may surprise the crowd and wake them up a bit and get them going for the main event matches.
IWGP Intercontinental Title (C) Chris Jericho V/S Tetsuya Naito: Is there even a point to the Intercontinental Title? It isn’t exactly a title that is coveted and fought after that much. Saying that this will be surprisingly good. Both guys will bring it all and leave it all in the ring. The Title will be forgotten in this match but I’m picking Naito to win the title.
IWGP Title: (C) Kenny Omega V/S Hiroshi Tanahashi: Omega is on fire right now! Tanahashi is still good but his time seems done for the time being. Not to mention he seems to be injured with Something for these match. It will be a match worthy of the MAIN EVENT, but Tanahashi’s time may just be4 over and Omega retains. Maybe some of the other Bullet Club guys try to get involved but Ibishi stops them or something along those lines. With a lot of the Club guys heavily Rumored to be on there way out, SOMETHING big will happen, but it is just a matter of WHAT.
I expect this to be another showcase for New Japan and about most of the other wrestling shows for the year. I’m expecting good things from this show and some BIG things as well. Let’s see what I get!
Happy New Year!
Now, before I go I want to point anyone reading this towards a special little pup who is part of the family of a friend of mine. I have not had the chance to meet her personally, but Bailey isn’t feeling too good and she needs some help. Poor Bailey could use the kindness of strangers so if you are reading this, I ask you to give her a little love and help her and Jen out. She has had a rough one so far so she could use the help. You can donate to her and her human Jen HERE.
