Not bad for both NXT Takeover and Summerslam!
Hello again Gang!
So there was good wrestling this past weekend and I made a day of it. Got a new wallet, got some grocery shopping done, and went out and spent some time with Max, my friend’s Cat who just loves me. So I made a good weekend of it. As I predicted both shows last week I might as well do a follow up for this weeks. so how did I do?
NXT Title 2 out of 3 falls: Adam Cole (c) vs. Jonny Gargano: Welp, got this one wrong but still it was a heck of a match! Although we kind of known that since before the match took place, both guys are ready for the big time. This was a great mack and the third fall being the cage with the weapons was amazing!
NXT Tag Title: Street Prophets(c) vs. The Undisputed Era: Street Prophets won out as I expected and they put on a good show in downing it. But that begs to question of the Street Prophets on RAW. Why? They kept the belts so they aren’t going to be on RAW for a little while actually wrestling. That move makes it look even worse now.
NXT North American Title: Velveteen Dream(c) vs. Rodrick Strong vs. Pete Dunn: Dream retained the belt as I predicted as this was a better match than I expected. But with Dream retaining the belt, it kinda takes away from making this a 3 way much, doesn’t it? Maybe there is more to come in telling the story but why?
NXT Women’s title: Shayna Baszler(c) vs. Mia Yim: Shayna retained to no big surprise. Like I said it would take someone really special to dethrone her and Mia Yim isn’t that person. Nothing new here and Shayna choked her out and won. Not a bad match by any means but was predictable in what happened.
Candice LeRae vs Io Shirai: This was the opener to the show and didn’t fill a death spot. I commend them for that. If anything this match showed the possibility of Io being the top heel of the woman’s division. I really dug that and see her going for the belt now. I think she showed real promise as a heel and a new dimension to Io Sharai as a character.
Overall: This show was good! I don’t think there are many who expected otherwise. Having Killian Dane and Matt Riddle come out and brawl was a nice touch and a slugfest. Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae should be watched now as I think they both are going to the big time now and this was a good way to go out of NXT. Having Adam Cole retain the belt leaves me wondering who would they have to be the next challenger or be the person to actually beat him for the belt and where does the Undisputed Era go from here after not winning the other belts. This was a good show that left me wondering what would be next.
And now to Summerslam itself
WWE Championship: Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Randy Orton: Um. What the hell was this?!? I know the ending was predictable going in but you give us this? That was the crapfest of the night and don’t want to see this match again.
Universal Championship: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Seth Rollins: Boy did I get this wrong! Believe me, I was just as surprised. I LOVE the part of the match with Brock swinging Seth around by the bandages around his chest like a doll. THAT is the kind of thing you expect from a Brock Lesnar match. Again, not a crapfest buy holy moly was I surprised!
Raw Women’s Championship: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Natalya: It didn’t dawn on me that so much of the card was about making the Canadian fans happy and getting them in the seats for the show. The result still stands that Natalya was not expected to win the title and she didn’t. It was a filler match to get Canadian fans in attendance and was forgotten about the next night with the return of Sasha Banks.
SmackDown Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Ember Moon: It got Bayley on the show and she won the match, so what was the point? Just like I pointed out before the show, there was nothing special to this and it happened. It was good, I’m not saying it was bad, but the point of this seems lost on me.
United States Championship: AJ Styles (c) vs. Ricochet: Pretty much as I expected. the point people took from this one was Ricochet’s Nightwing outfit that night and I STILL don’t know what was going on there.
Kevin Owens vs. Shane McMahon: That match itself wasn’t that big a surprise It went pretty much how you would expect a Shane McMahon match to go and look, another Canadian! It didn’t take long for Owens to win but with a lot of crap that Shane and the WWE will use to make it look like he lost. At6tackeing the refs for the match, no matter if Elias put his hands on Owens during the match or not. This will continue on and be stretched out a little more.
Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt: this one was bizarre! I think the new Feind character has some legs to it and see a future in that. That weird new lantern is a nice touch too. This new version of Bray has a future ahead of it, let’s hope the WWE doesn’t screw this up like they usually do.
Golberg vs. Dolph Ziggler: Just like I figured with Goldberg looking incredible for the short time he was out there and Dolph looked like crap. This was more of a piss break match than anything really substantial and felt more like it was there to get Goldberg on the show more than anything.
Trish Stratus vs. Charlotte Flair: Well this was more substantial then I expected. When Trish tweeted out that this was her last6 match, I knew it had to be something. Of course, the WWE didn’t mention that at all and will probably try to bring her back again for a lot of orf money down to the road. It was an all right match with Charlotte getting the win. A result I expected. To bad it doesn’t mean as much as it should with the WWE not mentioning Trish going into this as her “last” match. Shame.
There were 3 preshow matches as well but I didn’t even watch those. I might watch then sometime but I am hearing I didn’t miss much with those. My overall picks for the weekend are 11-3-3 so that wasn’t too bad. The wrestling was good and nothing much to complain about. Good shows and hope you will do it again next year.
So for another wrestling shows that were decent, See you all later!
