Passing along the message to help out a fellow convention attendee and cosplayer
Hey gang. This week isn’t going to be a long one this week, but recently I saw a post on Facebook I wanted to pass this along. It is a post from Cyrene Cruz, whose best friend Sierra Clayborn was killed in the terrorist shooting in San Bernardino, California. She, like me and my friends, went to conventions and cosplayed to have fun with her friends. I’;m not going to rant and rave, make this political, about gun control, or immigration or anything else. I’ll let Cyrene’s words speak for themselves.
On Wednesday, one of the most important people in my life, one of my best friends, Sierra Clayborn passed away due to the incident in San Bernardino. I am shocked, confused, angry, and most of all I am utterly heartbroken. Sierra is one of the most amazing people I have ever known and I am so beyond words thankful to her for being in my life. She always went out of her way to make me feel special and loved. She was there for me when I was at my worst, and when I was at my best. She was someone I knew would be in my life forever.
We got into cosplay at the same time, taught ourselves how to sew and how to make awesome props, and had many late night sewing parties getting our costumes ready for conventions. Some of my favorite memories with her are from Anime Expo in our Pokemon cosplays, and later squealing in joy finding out we had our pictures published in Cosmode. The last night we spent together was at a Halloween party and we helped each other make sure our costumes were perfect just as we always had before heading out. Every moment I spent with her was a joyous one.
Thank you for being my friend. Thank you for taking me out for late night sushi dinners in Little Tokyo, for last minute midnight trips to Pink’s in LA, and for joining me in after-work beers at Limericks. For always making me laugh and for being someone I knew I could confide in.
You are brilliant, witty, gorgeous, and loving. I am and will always be inspired by you.
I love you and I miss you so, so, so much.
A crowd funder raiser is being run to be able to give this wonderful person a proper me memorial. The fundraiser is being run by her sister. If you would like to help out, then go HERE and chip in. Every little bit helps in giving Sierra’s family and friends the peace of mind to given then a way to say goodbye.
