Two from the mat game no longer join us.
Hey Gang. It’s hot as hell around her right now with July rolling in. Despite the reputation for the harsh Maine winters, the summers are not that great to live through either. It’s the time of year for either a fan or an A/C in your window because it isn’t fun to sit in this.
In the last few days, being a wrestling fan, we’ve had to say goodbye, First to a long time veteran of the mat game that many of an age would remember in Vader. Probably the most talented “big man” to grace the squared circle. I remember reading about his exploits in Japan under the Character (beating Inoki in his Japanese Debut) and then coming back to WCW for an American run in the 90’s. He later dominated the company, at least until Hulk Hogan showed up. His run in the WWF was alright, but there was a lot going on there he didn’t have control over either. Even still with that, he had an amazing run for all those years. I knew he had been having heart problems but didn’t guess how bad it was until he passed away. Everyone from network news to other websites, a LOT of people remember Vader, whether they were wrestling fans or not. Sad that he is gone, but he left a lot of wrestling action behind to remember him by, and a lot of people did!
The other, he may have been the other side of the coin. We also had to say goodbye to Matt Cappotelli. Matt wasn’t the worldwide sensation that Vader was. He was a winner of WWE’s old Reality show Tough Enough, but he was one of the winners in the season that actually produced talent. While the other guy had been to wrestling school (John Hennigan AKA John Morrison) Matt had it harder. He literally got the shit kicked out of him during training, and was supposed to be on the WWE’s main show more than once, but injuries kept pushing that back more and more. He was getting a great push in OVW and was a big prospect for the WWE but then the Cancer was found. We all thought he was cured, but like cancer does to so many, it came back and things weren’t nearly as good. He fought and carried on, but the battle finally ended. A lot of people like to dwell on what could have been, but there is a lot of what he actually was and that sounds awesome. At least now he isn’t in any pain or discomfort anymore.
It’s hard to say goodbyes, even as a wrestling fan and to people you never met, but it is sad to hear and harder still knowing that it’s over. But in both cases, there is stuff we can remember them by from better days. And memories sometimes are what’s best.
Thank you to both of you for that. May you Rest Well.
Now, before I go I want to point anyone reading this towards a special little pup who is part of the family of a friend of mine. I have not had the chance to meet her personally, but Bailey isn’t feeling too good and she needs some help. Poor Bailey could use the kindness of strangers so if you are reading this, I ask you to give her a little love and help her and Jen out. She has had a rough one so far so she could use the help. You can donate to her and her human Jen HERE.
