A great book by an awesome guy!
Hi Gang! The snow is melting away around here so more critters are out to play in the backyard. We seem to have a few regulars as four big ol’ turkeys come by for stops at the bird feeders. They are a bit goofy but they stay back there ALL DAY. They aren’t hurting anyone or doing any damage so, by all means, go for it!
Writing wise it is the time of year when things slow down. Not going into details but currently, I’m bringing in a lot less money. Not good times and I am looking for new opportunities to write for a living. Not the first time but it still kinda sucks.
However, one thing I was able to do to occupy my mind when not looking for new places to write is reading a new book! I was able to read the new novel Viral by Mike Jeavons!
Mike himself is a Youtuber I follow. He does a few different video series. He is known for his food videos like his “Week On” Series of videos where he eats a certain theme of foods for a week (And measures the results on his bathroom scale) as well as assorted one-off vids where he tries something that someone has sent him. He also does other videos like Infomercialism where he tries out products from infomercials to see if they can do what they claim. All the good stuff!
Mike is also a writer and now author! He released his novel Viral recently and low and behold I had an Amazon gift card so I got myself a paperback Copy of the book and it is good!
Viral tells the story of Chad McKenna. He is stuck in a crap job where people make fun of him constantly and he is under the nose of his asshole Older brother Sam and his computer company. Chad spends his time as a lowly cleaning as Sam and his underlings tend to make fun of the guy during the day.
Things get more interesting as one day a video is made of Chad… pleasuring himself… and the video somehow ends up getting to where he works. The video then is released to the internet and gets REALLY popular. But that unleashes all kinds of hell and things get worse from there!
The book is a really good fiction romp. Reading it I really was wondering what would happen next. Things seem to get worse and worse and the story has a science fiction slant but still keeps a lot of what is going on as realistic as well. Even when things look really dark, it is still a story that is believable in the context of what is being read and even though it does go crazy, it doesn’t get too crazy with the story it is telling.
Mike is from England so the story takes place in various places in England, but as an American, I didn’t get lost in the locations either. There are no pictures drawn, but I think Mike does a wonderful job of painting the picture of just where the story is taking place and what is there to greet the reader as well.
There are a lot of references made during the book, and depending on where you are you may not get all of them, but you still get the context of them. Things that are known to a smaller percentage of readers like that (English TV for example) are mostly explained out as to what you are supposed to focus on so you don’t have to know EVERY reference to the story, he does just as well telling you what is going on and what the character is looking at.
I loved it! It is a good way to get your mind off things for a while (and my mind has been on a lot of things as of late). It is an action and adventuire story that will keep you reading from cover to cover.
Now, before I go I want to point anyone reading this towards a special little pup who is part of the family of a friend of mine. I have not had the chance to meet her personally, but Bailey isn’t feeling too good and she needs some help. Poor Bailey could use the kindness of strangers so if you are reading this, I ask you to give her a little love and help her and Jen out. She has had a rough one so far so she could use the help. You can donate to her and her human Jen HERE.
